Summary: Flashback from Selene's first years as a vampire.

	In The Beginning

Heavy footfalls of the horde of Lycans, rattled the castle to its very core. Ancient, stone floors threatened to give in beneath the weight of the massive beasts, fine grains of dust lacing the surface of my raven tresses. Crystal blue spheres narrowed in on the end of the corridor, squinting through the darkness to make certain my enemies had not yet caught my trail. Sneaking into Lucian's humble castle in order to kill a few of his canine brethren, had been strictly against Viktor's orders, but as he and the rest of our coven knew very well, I had never been one for following orders.

My heavy armour hindered me in moving as swiftly as I would have liked, but my lithe form ghosted down the hallway in a blur nonetheless. The scent of wet dog grew stronger as I ascended the stairs that led from the basement tunnels to the great hall, the sound of vicious growling could be heard, echoing through the castle and sending shivers down my back. I had not expected any of them to be in their beastly form until they discovered me intruding on their home, so it was clear that something was already going on. With my back to the wall, I watched the grand hall out of the corner of my eye, noticing the crowd of Lycans, most of them still in their human state.

They were circled around two of their brethren who had shifted, cheering them on as they fought viciously, with teeth and claws, blood spraying the floor in frequent intervals. The fools were battling amongst their own; hopefully they would wipe themselves out. Pale fingers wrapped around the handle of my trusty sword, slowly lifting my arm to withdraw the lethal blade from its sheath. It would be so easy to slaughter them all right here, while they were human and too distracted to see me coming. Would this be the night I achieved my vengeance? Shifting my weight from foot to foot, I readied myself for the perfect moment to attack, so preoccupied by my own thoughts that I did not hear the sounds of nearing footfalls.

Strong digits curled in my luscious locks of hair, tugging my head back so suddenly I almost dropped my weapon right there. Stifling a pained groan, I clenched slick ivories together , cerulean gaze shifting to land upon the familiar angered face of Kraven. His strength overpowered mine easily, and before I could protest, his bulky arms had clasped around my delicate body in a death grip, hurling us both out of the nearest window. We landed in the river below with a loud splash, Kraven refused to let go even as water encased us both, pulling us deeper and deeper down into the abyss. He was here on Viktor's orders, I already knew that. But how the Elder vampire had known where to find me, remained a mystery. One I intended to solve.
